The SPARX Skate Sharpener

Designed for home use, the SPARX Skate Sharpener is the first consumer-friendly personal skate sharpener to enter the hockey market. Users can easily set a perfect edge on their skates without the training or skill required for using a traditional skate-sharpening machine.

The SPARX Skate Sharpener is perfect for hockey players, hockey moms, hockey dads—or whoever is responsible for getting skates sharpened. While a few other uses for the system have emerged, the SPARX Skate Sharpener was designed and built with families in mind, especially those with multiple hockey players in the household who do not have easy access to quality skate sharpening.

High-quality skate sharpening often can be difficult to find. As a result, hockey players and parents are forced to drive for miles out of their way to get a quality edge on their skates. Needless to say, this process can take a couple of hours each week, and it’s very inconvenient. Consequently, many players are not getting their skates sharpened as often as they should, and that has an immediate and negative impact on their game.

The people behind the SPARX Skate Sharpener recognized that recreational hockey players everywhere may have access to the same high-quality equipment that NHL players are using, but they do not have the same access to the one thing that is most important: high-quality skate sharpening. Players are paying hundreds of dollars for skates and then, too often, skating on either dull or poorly sharpened blades.

It took well over two years of R&D to design and build the SPARX Skate Sharpener. To accomplish this, researchers investigated, dismantled and studied every other sharpener on the market. They acquired a ton of information to build the device. The result? The SPARX Skate Sharpener is simply the easiest-to-use machine on the market, and they believe it to be the best.

Some highlights of the mechanics:

• Easily Changeable ROH SPARX Grinding Rings come in everything from 3/8″ to 1.5″ ROH (in 1/16″ increments). Wheels can be swapped out in a matter of seconds.
• Patent-Pending Alignment System A visual system that makes it easy for the typical consumer to center the Grinding Ring. Typically only needs to be done once, but can easily be checked periodically and reset as needed.
• Integrated HEPA Filtration system The fully enclosed HEPA filtration system keeps dust from escaping the system, making it ideal for home use.
• Self-centering clamping system Once the Grind Ring has been aligned, the self-centering clamps ensures that the blade of the skate is directly above the Grinding Ring, which will result in even edges. Because of this design, you can easily change from player skates to goalie skates without adjusting the position of the Grinding Ring.

The SPARX Skate Sharpener is only available on Kickstarter. There are less than 20 days left in the Kickstarter campaign. Sharpeners that are ordered will be delivered in the fall of 2015.
