Our Review

Before you even crack open the box, you’re hit with a very professional, sleek presentation. Beneath a sweet magnetic locking lid, the Lawn Mower™ 4.0 awaits you. There it rests on a tray, complete with everything else you need: two clipper guards, a small brush for cleaning the blades; a charging dock and cable; and quick start-up and longer comprehensive guides.

I wouldn’t call myself a tech whiz or the brightest light in the night sky, but I’m also not a total fledgling. This thing is pretty easy to figure out. None of that crazy plastic that you need a reciprocating saw to get through. Simple instructions with pictures for the visual learners. Following their instructions, I plugged the trimmer into the charging dock and waited about 10 minutes for it to charge from the factory’s 66% to a full 100%.

I then proceeded to… well… mow the lawn. The trimmer is easy to handle and ergonomic in the average-sized hand. The two included clipper guards snap on and off very easily (quick push of the thumb to release). It has just one button with three functions: one tap to turn it on and off; hold 3 seconds to turn on/off the very handy light; and three quick taps to lock/unlock (convenient for preventing accidental/pocket/suitcase turn-ons).

The light is something new for me; this is the first trimmer I have used that included such a feature. Even in a well-lit bathroom (or wherever you happen to tend to your garden), it helps you avoid the spots you don’t want to be trimming (moles, ingrown hairs, skin tags, what have you). And if you happen to hit one of those areas, their SkinSafe® technology should prevent any skin slices (although the product does come with a disclaimer that it’s not foolproof; you can cut yourself if you’re not careful).

Thankfully, in my first and only go-around with the Lawn Mower™ 4.0 thus far, I escaped—or, rather, MANSCAPED—intact. The trimmer is powerful yet fairly quiet, about the same loudness as a dishwasher or vacuum cleaner running in the other room (not too shabby, but not exactly “whisper quiet”). But seriously, guys. It’s not the ’70s anymore; almost everyone mows the lawn. Your bathroom fan should cover the sound, and if not, tell your nosy guests to “buzz off.”
