The Battle to the Blue Line drill is a good competitive 1 on 1 exercise that teaches evasive moves and checking skills.

Battle to the Blue Line Drill Description

Player 1 starts with one skate on the face-off dot. Player 2 starts with one skate on the goal line. On the whistle, Player 1 sprints to the dot, stops and sprints back to the corner for the loose puck. Meanwhile, Player 2 races to the edge of the circle, stops, and then sprints into the corner to check Player 1.

The goal is to skate it to the blue line. The winner brings it back for a scoring chance.
